Highlights of Mediterranean Cruise 2009

For our 25th Anniversary, I surprised LInda with a cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean on the Royal Carribean Navigator of the Seas. We flew to Rome on the 20th of September and left from the harbor in Civitaveccia, about 30 km outside Rome. From there we sailed to Messina in Sicily, Athens in Greece, Kusadasi in Turkey and Iraklion in Crete.   • The train station at Rome Airport. It was not too far from where we landed.  The biggest problem was that one piece of luggage did not arrive and was sitting in Frankfurt.  Lufthansa assured us it would catch up by Messina.

  • It started raining after we got on the train to the port.  As usual Linda was prepared.  I on the other hand let myself get wet because it does not bother me.  Also I forgot to pack an umbrella.  But on principan I did not accept the extra one that LInda had packed !

  • We asked this lady to take our picture and she really got into it.  She climbed onto a wall to get a better view....while I was thinking that is an expensive camera.  She did a fantastic job.

  • We took the subway from the port to Monastraki.  When you come out of the station you can see the Parthenon in the distance and then there are 20 other great sites in between to see.

  • During the Byzantine period when the Turks took over Greece, they make a mosque in the Agora.  Now it houses artifacts.  Not too cool.
