Heavyweight Races

The Heavyweight races were on the 19th of August. Chief Akram started with the first race and it was a shocker to see him lose. Akram lost heart after 500m when he could not shake off the Indian rower. The crews that followed were in the same pattern, where they were within range of the Indians to the 1000m mark but then slowed down dramatically after that. Almost as if they were out of shape. This was the first inkling that the 5 days of not rowing had caused us some serious damage. The long faces on the awards stands reflect the belief that we had rowed much faster in practice in Pakistan.
