National Club Championships Day 1
The first day of Nationals was busy. The girls rowed in the junior double after which Aisha rowed in the junior B single and finally Kiran raced in the Open single dash. The junior girls double was the largest event in the regatta with 42 entries. Our goal was to advance to semis but we knew the road was going to be tough. We drew a tough heat. In the five boat race we were in the race until the 1000 meter mark where we came off pace and allowed the other boats to open up on us. We ended up in 3rd, beating the US Rowing Development Camp boat, almost 8 seconds out of qualifying. In the junior B single, Aisha was up against some fast girls, and we were not a factor in the race after the first 20 strokes. The dash I thought was going to be tough since it was an open event. Sure enough, some of the girls in there had been to World trials and were seasoned veterans that we never saw after the first 2 strokes...they were that fast. But Kiran was still quick enough to keep third place locked up and could have taken 2nd if she had really tried. She qualified for the semi-final, which was some well-needed good news.
