Independence Day Regatta Day 3
The last day of the regatta was supposed to be our centerpiece. We were racing in the Girls Junior Double. The day was misty and cool, and by the time the girls reached the start a slight drizzle was coming down. We were in Lane 6, which starts furthest back since the turn in the course favours it at the 700 meter mark. Right after the start the girls in Lane 5 almost ran into Kiran and Aisha. Although the referee was steering the other girls, it distracted our girls enough to cause them to slow down. They spent the rest of the race trying to chase down the field. They closed up the gap with Lane 5 but could not hold it in the last 30 strokes. Our rate was lower than before at around a 29.
