FRA Practice 2 July 2014

Took out with the FRA Masters 4 for a short row interrupted by a violent lightning storm that sent us scurrying back to shelter. Before practice I got to take some pictures of the U23 PennAC girls 4 that Anisa was coxing. Comments are with each video.

  • John Stroke notice that at the finish you do not get your outside arm away from the body before you start swinging forward. This makes your recover much faster than everyone else and they just try to speed up. So make sure you hold your shoulders at the finish get the arms away, pivot and move forward. Second thing is to pull in a little higher...to the same spot where we checked heights to. Brian, you are also combining the arms away with the pivot forward though to a much less extent. John Scott watch the start of the seat rolling up, make sure it is with John Stroke. Just a little behind which makes it more difficult later in the stroke. If John stroke fixes the hands away, this problem may become much less but you have to watch for it. Tom, watch the catch, be squared and ready for it.

  • You can see the same problems but they get a little masked at the higher rates. Generally the boat is moving well but if we get recoveries together, you guys will be much more effective on the drive. John stroke, notice where you are finishing to. It is lower than your ribcage which is not where we adjusted the heights to. This makes your oar wash out which you can see in the video. Finishes for the rest were much improved. John Scott watch after the settle that there is a bigger gap between stroke and three. You have to pivot over a little faster and John Stroke has to not combine arms away with the pivot. Brian and Tom, nice finishes.

  • Linda forgets to focus! But look for body movement and how we get a break between three and four.

  • The first 10 strokes were great and then we got out of rhythm. Key that we keep our preparation together which will make our catches come together.
